Authorization role model increases company-wide security
The regulatory requirements for good governance practice are increasing. As a
leading company in the financial sector, the Wüstenrot & Württembergische
Group (W&W Group) attaches great importance to security and transparency.
The introduction of an authorization role model in the W&W Group strengthens
the assurance of appropriateness in the assignment of authorizations.

Mission & Objectives
The W&W Group wanted a consulting and implementation partner who could provide comprehensive, specific support on the topic of authorization role modeling in the context of IDM and meet all requirements during implementation. The assignment included the introduction and implementation of an authorization role model to ensure the appropriate assignment of authorizations and to reduce the organizational effort involved in user and authorization management. As a result, business risks were to be reduced ans the handling of company data made more secure.
Procedure & Methodology
Prior to implementation, an authorization role concept was developed in close cooperation between the client and IPG. With the help of a so-called bottom-up/top-down analysis, it was possible to ensure that the functional requirements of the users were optimally aligned with the authorizations. For the introduction of the authorization role model, the project team chose a proven procedure along tthe organizational structure. The IPG expertts work in parallel with internal specialists on the implementation. This approach ensures that new findings are continously taken onto account in the next organizational units, thus constantly improving the quality of the results. The targeted use of tools also contributed to the success. With NEXIS 4, not only can new roles be developed, but they can also be clearly visualized. Entire role landscapes are displayed at the touc of a button, so to speak. The resulting transparency relieves the burden on the specialist departments and makes a decisive contribution to the high level of acceptance during implementation. Implementation is taking place along the functional organizational units and will be completed by the end of 2016.
As a future-oriented company, clear and efficient processes are very important to us. with effective tools such as NEXIS we were able to develop and visualize new business roles simply and clearly. Thias has not only made it much easier for line managers to understand, but has also kept the entire project management lean. As a result, the project was met with grat acceptance from all sides.

Goals achieved
- Significant simplification of ensuring appropriate assignment of authorizations and compliance with segregation of duties
- Increasing transparency in the assignment of rights and reduceing the effort involved in applications, administration and control activities (e.g. during recertification)
The clear assignment of authorizations to business roles has simplified the entire authorization process at W&W, because dozens of individual authorizations no longer have to be issued for new additions, but can be assigned in a bundled manner. The use of NEXIS has been well received. This tool from our partner Nexis displays roles embedded in their environment. This has saved us time and created transparency and security. Armed with this, the customer can look forward to complying with the regulatory requirements in the industry with confidence.
